Art Morph puts physical materials directly into the visitor’s hands. Fabric, paper, objects: whatever they handle is captured and transformed in real time by a generative AI model, which draws from it an original artwork inspired by the Cleveland Museum of Art’s open access collection. The image changes with every gesture. Materials are refreshed regularly, allowing the installation to evolve over time.

The Cleveland Museum of Art has updated its ArtLens space under a new name: ArtLens Reimagined: The Intersection of Art, Technology, and Innovation.
This redesigned gallery brings together 21 new interactive installations that invite visitors to experience art in a different way. Designed as a space open to everyone, it draws on the museum’s permanent collection to create moments of shared creation, exchange, and genuine connection with the artworks. Art Morph is part of the installation.
Concept
Process
The installation uses a camera to capture visitors’ hands as well as everyday physical objects, transforming them into artworks inspired by the museum’s collection. By placing elements like paper or shapes on the platform, the system interprets these inputs to instantly generate a new digital creation, in the style of selected works from the collection.
The project grew out of the Hands-on Hallucinations explorations carried out in R&D at Dpt., where generative AI is treated as a medium rather than only a production tool.
